Dominique Hogan-Doran SC will be speaking on the following panels:

Climate litigation: the problem of causal link
Tuesday 4 November (1115-1230)
This panel will explore one of the most complex and contentious issues in climate litigation: establishing a causal link between specific greenhouse gas emissions and the damages caused by climate change. As courts grapple with holding corporations, governments, and other entities accountable for environmental harm, proving direct causation remains a major legal hurdle. The discussion will be about how courts worldwide are addressing this challenge, the role of scientific evidence in tracing emissions to concrete impacts, and the potential evolution of legal standards in this field. Experts in environmental law, climate science, and international litigation will contribute insights to this pressing global issue.

The only way is ethics
Tuesday 4 November (1615 -1730)
A discussion on the developing challenges and initiatives in the regulation and ethics of the independent referral bar around the world. This session will address topics including artificial intelligence and technological developments, use of social media, strategic lawsuit against public participations, navigating intergenerational challenges. Whatever area of practice you are in, in this interactive session, our panel will explore approaches to common ethical dilemmas in the legal profession.

Access to the profession- the application of the 'fit and proper' character test
Wednesday 5 November (0930 - 1045)
Many Law Societies have a "fit and proper" character test for admission to the profession but its application varies considerably in many jurisdictions. Some only apply it at admission stage but others require compliance through your career. In this session we will discuss the appropriateness of the test and what factors countries take into consideration.

Wild fires and natural disasters - a case for liability?
Wednesday 5 November (1115 - 1230)
Wild fires and natural disasters- force majeure no more, but a case for liability? As the climate crisis worsens, natural disasters are no longer unforeseeable acts of god, but consequences of the states’ failure to effectively combat climate change. What are the remedies that our legal systems hold for the victims?
